Browser Review - Flock

I have just downloaded a new browser. It is not as slick as Firefox or Safari but it has one killer feature that will make it seem cool. It allows you to have in the sidebar most of the popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Digg, Twitter, YouTube, Pownce, and many more.It has a list of all the sites on there site at flock.com but it will work will most of the popular sites. Also you can set it up with blogging sites such as Blogger, Wordpress and even your own self-hosted blog. I am using the feature to post right now. I would give this browser a 8.5/10 because it is a great way to stay connected to everyone but the side bar does take a lot of space and at times I thought it was a little slow. Also it is a little hard to add bookmarks from another browser but you can easily add bookmarks in the browser. But overall if you are the person who is constantly checking Twitter, Facebook, and publishing to blogs then you should download this and give it a try!

Enjoy,

TechKid77

A quick note is that it is powered by Mozilla that is the same engine that powers Firefox.

On macrumors.com there was a story that Apple will drop the prices down on the Macbooks and Macbook Pro! And if this is true when will this happen at Macworld 2009 or even WWDC 2009? Who knows but all I know if this is true will they do this on all the other Macs? Maybe they will do to the gas prices, food prices, etc! And maybe they are losing sales bacuse People are not buying Apple products right now because they can not afford it. But all I hope is that this happens so maybe I could get one! Quick Tech Tips!!!

Tech Tips for your desktop and internet browser!

1. If you want a faster Mozilla firefox then just, on your navigation bar, type about:config. Scroll down to network.http.pipelining and double click it, and your done.

2. To make your xp startup faster, go on to your start menu. Then click on 'Run'. On the 'Run' window, type 'MSCONFIG' (without the quotes). It will come to another window, which you have to go on 'Startup'. Un-tick the progams that you don't want to start with and BAM! Your Done!

3. If you have accidentally closed a tab on firefox, it is said to be lost forever! But now you can bring them back by pressing Ctrl + Shift + T on a pc or on a mac by pressing, Command + Shift + T!

4. Have you ever wondered how to quickly rename files? Well now you can by selecting the files you want to rename, right click on the first one and rename it to something with a number next to, e.g. beach pic [1]. Then click enter and your done!

5. Have you ever got tired by going on your start menu then clicking on to the turn off button, then clicking shut down again! Now you can do it more easily by making a icon. Right click on your desktop and go on new - shortcut. Type Shutdown -s -t 00 then click ok, click ok and there you have your very own shutdown icon.

Thanks

XP Dead in July?!?!?!

Reports have been pouring in from Microsoft that Windows XP will officialy die in July. Many are gutted about this move whilst I am too. Dell on the other hand have announced a new downgrade feature for all of their new PCs which allows the customer to, even if the have Vista Business/Basic/Home Premium or Ultimate, downgrade to XP. No comment on reversibilty have been stated.

Spring Cleaning for Geeks!

Just thought I should give you a few tips on Spring Cleaning. Please not that you do not have to be a geek to follow these tips! :)

1. Tidy Your Desktop- You might want to tidy up your desktop e.g. make new folders to keep un-used but valuable files in or (like I am currently doing) get a second monitor, a VGA/DVI cable and configure dual monitors to increase productivity and more! It doesn't have to be a fancy new screen but just a screen maybe that has been collecting dust in your room.

2. Organize Your Workspace- You probaly want a bit more room on your desk (like I do) therefore I think you should tidy up your workspace. Maybe you could a mug or something to put all of you pens in and a drawer to keep your tech apparel in. If you REALLY want to tidy up your desk you might want to even get one of those slide out keyboard drawers installed under you desk. This may set you back about $50-$60 but at least you can keep you keyboard out of the way when you are doing non computer stuff.

3. Run Disk Defragmentator/Security Scan- If you are like me and have thausands of files on your PC in the wrong places then maybe you should run the Disk Defragmentator that comes standard on most operating systems (I'm not sure about Linux/Unix) and if you, for some reason don't have that piece of software on your PC, then you can download a free one of the internet by typing it in to a search engine. A security scan is always good and should be ran weekly if not daily! I reccomend you use your internet security/antivirus package or if you don't have one but instead have a standalone security package then you could get one easily off the internet!

I hope these tips have helped you increase productivity and work amounts in your tech-filled day!

I hope these

Flickr vs Youtube

Flickr has just announced that they will have paid video hosting with a wopping file size limit of 150mb (50mb more than Youtube). On the other hand Youtube fought back by introducing a new feature which allows users to view videos in a higher quality (if possible).

I personally LOVE Youtube so I use that!
